I Woke Up in Agony
I woke up on Saturday morning in so much pain. My legs and feet ached and my back was stiff and sore. I knew it would hurt to get out of bed but I had to get up.

I’d done a long run on the soft sand of the beach pushing the baby jogger the night before. It was a gorgeous evening and I loved it but I sure was paying for it on Saturday morning.

I hobbled through to the Lounge and with a groan reached under the coffee table for my trustee Tension Release Balls. I felt tired and sluggish – the tightness in my body was draining my energy

First I had to release those tight aching feet. I sat on the couch a rolled my foot backwards and forwards over the ball for a minute. Gradually I pushed down harder as I felt the tension releasing – I repeated with the other foot and straight away felt better. I could finally sit upright.

I slid down onto the carpet and placed the ball in a key trigger point on the outside of my hip. With each breath out I sank deeper into the ball and felt my muscles relaxing, I twisted my body and moved the ball to another key point and instantly felt more relief…

With a feeling of lightness in my body I slowly stood up and started circling my ankles then knees then hips – I moved in spirals up my body and by the time I’d finished there was no more aching or stiffness. I felt energized and raring to go.

It Takes Courage to Lose Weight
It Takes Courage to Be Slim & Healthy

This newsletter is hopefully going to stir some conflicting emotions and leave you thinking about why you’re still not realizing the slim and healthy You that you deserve!

You see it takes courage to be slim and healthy… it takes boatloads of courage to lose weight and it takes even more to keep it off.

It takes courage to strive for a loftier ideal, to hold an image in your mind and to take small steps every day towards it.

It takes courage to keep pushing forwards despite set-back after set-back.

It takes courage to tell your friends and family that you have chosen to live a different lifestyle to them and it takes courage to eat what you know is right and exercise daily despite the ridicule of people close to you.

I’ve encouraged you to watch this video once before but I’m going to encourage you again – this is real courage in action.

Playing Word Games for Peak Performance
I received a great response to my last newsletter in which I discussed the “Dennis Effect”. - that magical thing that happens when you replace words and thoughts of negativity with an uplifting mantra such as “I love it, I love it!”

It’s amazing but just saying those 3 words when exercising will instantly give you more energy and strength.

One of our trainers here at Fitness Together Mandarin has recently started incorporating the Dennis Effect into his sessions with clients and it’s working so well I had to share it with you:

For the entire session, whenever he asks how you’re doing, you’re only allowed to reply with a positive comment and you can’t use the same reply more than once.

Everyone starts with the easy replies – such as, “Good!” and “Great!” but by halfway through the session the game starts to get a bit more challenging.

Some of my favorite responses have been, “wicked awesome”, “radical”, “fantabulous”, “Skipalicious” (this came from Skip) …

Try playing this game yourself or with a friend the next time you exercise – I guarantee it will have you smiling pretty quickly and you’ll also have one of your best workouts in a long time.

The Key To Peak Performance
What I’m going to share with you today is one of the simplest yet most effective keys to peak performance in exercise and in life!

I noticed many years how the clients who complained the most got the least results – big surprise there perhaps.

However, I also noticed that the ones who did the best were the ones who had programmed themselves to enjoy exercise. Note the word programmed!

One of my most successful clients - Dennis – would constantly say. “I love it!” if an exercise was really tough. Whenever he felt those burning muscles, whenever he was struggling to breathe he’d be declaring out loud, “I love it! I love it!”

If I asked how he was feeling during the workout – he’d smile back at me between gasping breaths, “I love it! I love it!”

He told me he realized that when he was uncomfortable – that was the time that he was improving and getting stronger.

I started practicing Dennis’s technique myself.

For the next few weeks at Kickboxing I forced myself to say, “I love it! I love it!” whenever I got to a particularly tough exercise.

When I felt like giving in or quitting instead of saying to myself “this sucks” or “I hate this”, I forced myself to say, “I love it! I love it!”

I actually found myself smiling as I said it, and guess what? I also felt a burst of strength and energy!

I tell you those 3 little words are magical in more ways than you ever imagined.

After a few weeks of conscious programming the ‘Dennis response’ becomes just about automatic. Suddenly your workouts take on a whole new character. They become more fun and more beneficial…

Is Your Lack of Drinking a Problem?
Is your lack of drinking a problem & is it keeping You fat?

Did you know that we (as humans) are meant to be at least 70% water?

In Tom Robbins cult classic “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues” the joke is that humans were created by water as a transportation device, similar to how we use cars to get from point to point.

Why is it then that most people totally disregard the importance of staying well hydrated?

What if I told you that lack of water intake could be keeping you fat or at least contributing to your lack of fat-loss and also your lack of overall strength and even flexibility?

What if I told you that German research recently found that drinking at least 16 ounces of chilled water as soon as you rise in the morning can boost your metabolism (read fat burning furnace) by as much as 24% for 90 minutes?

The general rule of 8 glasses of water a day does not take into account peoples varying weights - rather go by the rule that you need to drink half your bodyweight (in pounds) in fluid.

For example, I’m 200 pounds; therefore I need to drink 100 fluid ounces over the course of a day with my 16 chilled ounces in the morning.

That’s a lot of water but I can feel the difference in my energy levels if I don’t drink enough. In fact I’ll often get a headache if my hydration level is not adequate.

I know some people don’t like plain water but NO sodas, coffee and juice don’t count when it comes to staying properly hydrated.

However, you can add lemon or another fruit to your water.

But, a love of plain water is a taste you can acquire.

Yours in health & happiness
